REVIEW: Etude House: AC CLINIC DAILY - TONER and GEL LOTION

I've been on a "sabbatical leave" from doing reviews. I was (and still is) busy from work. Argh.

My work is giving me a lot of stress these past few weeks. Not only that, my face has been bombarded with zits! Argh! I hate them.

I usually zap my zits with Emu Oil (I will be doing a separate review for this totally amazing product) but I ran out of stock. I buy my Emu Oil online but I had to think of other things to buy from that online store so I could purchase them all at once (aside form the fact that Emu oil is so expensive, the other 'things' that I am planning to buy from the online store was also expensive so I had to hold that I idea for the meantime).

So I went to my Etude House to check for some immediate solution to ZAP my ZIT.
(This is what I call the ZAP MY ZIT project!)

And here's the haul that I got:

I got a freebie with my purchases. Last time I got the Pearl Extract Facial Mask but they ran out of stock so they gave me this:
Uhm.. lipstick from these er.. GENTLEMEN, anyone??
This is a mousepad. It's actually very useful but I can't help notice that the guy from the farthest left  is trying to put lipstick on the blonde guy on his left (uhm no comment). It's kinda weird seeing guys / gentlemen endorsing cosmetics (specifically lipstick).

Okay...
Enough staring at these guys.

I will be doing a review for Etude House - AC CLINIC DAILY - Toner and Gel Lotion.
These are two separate items :)

*************************************************

The Product/s
Etude House - AC CLINIC DAILY Toner
Etude House - AC CLINIC DAILY Gel Lotion

These are both products of Etude House (so you can buy these in all Etude House stores here in the Philippines).

This is an Etude House line made for those who have pimple prone skin. AC DAILY CLINIC is a three-step pimple control line. First is the Acne Foam Cleanser. Then the second and third step would be the Toner and the Gel Lotion. Unfortunately, there were no stock of the Acne Foam Cleanser that time so I just bought the Toner and the Gel Lotion

AC CLINIC DAILY Toner - as the name suggests, this is a TONER. Use this toner after washing your face with your facial wash /soap.
Price: PhP 548
Comes in a 150ml bottle

This is the description from the Etude House website

A water soluble moisturizer that keeps moisture for a silky and healthy skin. It cleanses gently dead skin and its impurities. Contains Salicylic Acid and Retinispora soothes the skin.

This is quite good for people like me who easily gets a lot of breakouts.
This product is NON COMEDOGENIC, meaning it does not cause skin breakouts because this product does not clog the pores of the skin.

No English translation on this part..

AC CLINIC DAILY Gel Lotion- This is some sort of a moisturizer. Apply this product AFTER using the AC CLINIC DAILY Toner.
Price: PhP 548
Comes in a 150ml bottle

There is no official description from the Etude House website about this product. But the saleslady at the Etude House store in Robinson's Metroeast told me that AC CLINIC DAILY Gel Lotion is applied after the AC CLINIC DAILY Toner so as not to dry your skin.

This is a description that I got from an online store:

Formulated with Salicylic Acid and Hinoki Cypress extract, AC Clinic Gel Lotion delivers trouble care.  Skin Lotion maintains oil and moisture balance to supply trouble care and prevention.

The bottle is quite big!

Also, the AC CLINIC DAILY Gel Lotion is NON COMEDOGENIC.

Since there are two products here, let me make the description short and straight to the point.

The PACKAGING:
They are placed in a tall glass bottle (around 16cm). Mind you, these babies are quite heavy because of the bottle. I LOVE the packaging because it resembles the bottles witches use in making potions (well, the ones that we see on cartoons ^_^)

The SMELL
AC CLINIC DAILY TONER - It has a weird smell. Think of antiseptic + sugar + herbal scent. I cannot explain it in detail but please don't get me wrong with the 'antiseptic' word that I used. This one doesn't have that alcohol smell.

AC CLINIC GEL LOTION - The ssmell is much milder but still the scent it quite strange. The 'herbal' scent is not that strong compared to the toner.
It also has a watery consistency and you would only need a small amount to apply it all over your face.

And I guess here's the REAL RAW review.
I will be showing you guys a picture of myself with ZITS!
I hope you will not laugh or feel grossed-out when you see my zits. Last December was one of the most stressful months at work so my acne just popped out from my face.
I have an acne prone + oily skin so I DO have a 'troubled' skin. :( Anyways these are RAW photos.

NOT EDITED. I just wanted to show you the effectivity of the product so at least you can have an idea if it works or not.

Well, here it goes!!
Again, the photos were not edited. I just placed the dates on them so at least you will know when I took the photos.

DECEMBER 10, 2012: I hate these acne. These are the zits that have EYES! (the white ones that you see in the middle). I can't conceal these with a concealer since I do not want the acne to worsen.

December 11, 2012 - The acne have somehow subsided (still looks red though!). But I am starting to love this.

December 12, 2012 - It is still not the end of the world for me! This troubled skin still has a cure! The redness has subsided and I can now conceal these pimples easily.

December 14, 2012 - I have to be patient. Soon, these acne will be gone. :)

December 16, 2012 - Yipee!!! Though they are turning to acne scars, I am still thankful :)

December 28, 2012 - Sorry for the picture. I used a different camera for this. Hope you can still see the improvement.

December 31, 2012 - Say goodbye to 2012, say goodbye to acne / zits!

Today, January 4, 2013 - Way much better than last December 10, 2012.

What can I say:
I TOTALLY LOVE THIS!

I saw the improvement on my skin. The redness subsided and after a month, I am almost acne-free (well not totally).
I am satisfied with the results and I would definitely purchase this again. This is a must-have for me.
It's a bit expensive but it's all worth it.

I won't say more because the pictures will tell you more about how effective these products are.

:)

Hope I was able to help you with this review :)

    1. So sorry for the late reply. I was so busy with work..
Anyways, AC CLINIC moisturizer is like your regular moisturizer and it will not leave you a heavy feeling like your wearing makeup.
Once you apply the moisturizer, your skin will easily absorb it (giving you that 'fresh'-without makeup feeling).

    2. Im using the toner and the cleanser. Its working. But i didnt use the moisturizer because it made my skin felt too greasy. :)

I only use this in case I have breakouts (usually during my period).
The reason why I do not use this regularly is that the AC CLINIC TONER really leaves your skin dry (that's why we need the AC CLINIC moisturizer).

  8. Thanks for the review. I bought the toner and the lotion two weeks ago. My pimples dried up and did not inflame when I used it for three days. These days, I have lesser break-outs on my face as long as I continue using this product.

  9. Hi sis! I was looking for a new regimen since maxipeel isnt working too much for me anymore...better yet, i wanted an alternative as i dont want my skin to be immuned to maxipeel & become uneffective to me.here is my regimen with maxipeel:
    Cleanser - daily (morning only)
Exfoliant cream #3 - daily (morning)
Sunscreen - daily (morning after cream)
--- I also use the scrub during mornings prior to applying the cleanser.

    Exfoliant scrub - daily (night&day)
Exfoliant solution #3 - daily (night but now every after a day)

I know i should be exfoliating twice a week but i dont want to breakout again like before and having been done this regimen for a year now, it's starting to lose its effects. So i bought the ac clinic toner & gel and apply it during the night sans the maxipeel solution only. Any thoughts or suggestions for me? I also have occasional breakouts especially during stressful days. Cheers!:-)

    1. hi there!
I know what you feel sis. :(
I have tried almost all exfoliants, creams, cleansers, facial scrubs and toners for acne available in the local market. And every time I try something new, my skin adjusts by having breakouts. I would know if the product works on me IF i don't get breakouts after a long period of continued use (long period for me means around a month or two).

With this product, I did not get any breakouts while I was using it. I hope it would also work for you..

As for using exfoliants everyday, maybe you can try to experiment by taking a break from using maxipeel. harsh ingredients can hurt our skin and I believe that maxipeel contains some of those 'harsh ingredients'.

      ;)

    2. hello sis!:)

i decided to stir clear of my maxipeel products and went with buying Etude House's Happy Fresh Foam (White Clay) Cleanser. I have been using it for a week now and I noticed may small bumps na sa face ko...

im a bit confused on whether to stop it or continue with it for a another week...kasi may nabasa ako na sometimes when you're changing products, nag-aadjust yung skin so nagkaka-breakout. i did experience breakouts before nung ginamit ko is Clean&Clear pero pinagpatuloy ko parin and mas lumala. now hesitant ako to continue this etude cleanser...actually, confused ako.

to continue or to stop etude house white clay cleanser? :(

      Delete
    3. hi sis! I am not sure about the bumps because I have not experienced it.. :(
i suggest that you can ask your dermatologist about it.. I am not an expert on that.. sorry..

I had an experience before when I shifted from Clean&Clear products to Pond's facial products.. I had an awful series of breakouts pero I still continued.. eventually my skin got used to it..

I don't know if we have the similar case pero I suggest that you can ask a dermatologist about it just to be SURE,..

    4. Can I add up with this? I have the same problem with yours in relation to acne problems. Actually, that depends on our skin type and I have tried switching creams and astringents just to prevent acne like ponds, olay, hortaleza, eskinol, etc. Honestly speaking, prone ako sa acne kasi sensitive ang skin ko. Maybe your skin is, Ms. Rinbyul. If we keep on switching products, mas lalong lalala ang skin at magiging sensitive pa. The best way to solve this problem is to consult the dermatologist. If not, then, change our habits like eating or sleeping. For me, I changed may eating habits (refraining from eating fatty foods) and sleeping habits (bawal mag-puyat). Also, according to my doctor, drink lots of water. And still, I'm doing those. With this product (AC Clinic), effective talaga. My breakouts are lessen. Thanks to this blogger for her review. It is really helpful.

  10. Etude house's products are very good. mabilis ang improvements sa skin kaso you have to be patient sa pag-aapply lalo na when you get the full set which is 5 products. Pero its worth the effort and the money. I suggest po you get the red spot balm it helps with the redness of pimples lalo na kung tinatago nyo yung pimples.

    :) Great Review!

  11. This is a really nice review, actually I was looking for one exactly like this!! Thanx a lot for making the effort to post pictures. Gave me a good example of how real acne is ( cause till now i was persuaded i had acne, seeing these I understood that a few pimples here and there are not acne at all) and it actually shows that the product works! Also as other people said, i heard the balm for whitening is pretty nice, so you should try it! ^__^ Keep up and thanx again! <3

  13. With zits like that, you should try using SOS. It's a clindamycin solution. It can be bought at any watson's and very effective. It dries up your zits in 3 days. Visibility of scars left are also minimized with continuous usage. I've tried and still using the product, you should too. :)

Thanks for the suggestions sis :)
I haven't tried SOS yet and I will look for that product at Watson's.
I honestly used a lot of products for my zits like Panoxyl (I even got the one with the highest percentage of benzoyl peroxide but none of them worked for me.
I'll try that sis in case I drop by at Watson's ^_^
      Thanks!

    1. Hi! :)
Thanks for reading my blog :)
No need to wash your face after using the toner and lotion.

      Here's what I do:
MORNING: After washing my skin, I apply the toner and let it dry. When it's completely dry, that's the time I put on BB cream/makeup/etc.

EVENING: I wash my skin with a cleansing foam - then I apply the toner. When my skin is completely dry, that's the time I apply the LOTION and I leave it overnight :)

I hope this one would help you :)

    1. Hi! :)
I am still having breakouts because of a gazillion reasons (stress / hormones / lack of sleep etc.) . But as soon as I can see that I am about to have breakouts, I use this product immediately and luckily, it controls the breakouts and prevents the breakout to become full blown ZITS.

I guess I love these babies because of that reason :)

  17. i just bought this product after trying out a sample. i have a few things in mind though..the sample i got was AC CLINIC TONER and GEL LOTION. i used it for weeks and it didn't break me out. so i decided to purchase the big bottle ones. when i bought the AC CLINIC DAILY TONER and DAILY GEL LOTION, that's when i started breaking out pretty badly. i hope you can help me sort things out..
    NIGHT REGIMEN:
    - Etude House Green Tea Cleanser
    - Etude House AC CLINIC DAILY Toner
    - Etude House AC CLINIC DAILY GEL LOTION

i occasionally use the toner during the day but i always use the gel lotion prior to applying maxi peel concealer and the face shop bb cream (both concealer and bb cream never broke me out). the thing is, when i tried the sample ac clinic toner and gel lotion with maxi peel concealer and tfs bb cream during the day, i didn't get any breakouts. (i use etude house skin malgeum exfoliating toner in the evening before i ran out of the product and bought the big ac clinic bottles). the breakouts only happened when i bought the big bottles and i still followed the same regimen. any help and thoughts will be greatly appreciated. nawawalan na naman kasi ako ng self-esteem dahil dito :(

    1. hi my dear!
I am so sorry to hear that. :(
      This is what I do.
MORNING: I just use the Toner. Then when the TONER dries, I apply BB cream.
EVENING: I use the Toner and the Lotion. I let the Lotion stay overnight and once I get up in the morning, the redness is gone.

Have you tried using the the Lotion without the BB cream or the Maxipeel concealer?
My guess is that the Lotion and the BB cream + Concealer are not compatible so the breakouts started to appear.
The breakouts did not appear when you bought the small bottles but since you were continuously using it, the breakouts started to appear.
That's just my guess, my dear.

Try using it without any other products. The Lotion is somehow medicated.

But it the breakouts still persists... stop using the product and it would be better to consult a doctor if the breakouts are really bothering you..

Don't let you zits get the best of you. :)
I know what you feel and I have been through (and still is) going through that stage.
Try to read regimens on the internet..
If it really bothers you, consult a doctor. :)

Have you tried CETAPHIL? It's really an effective facial wash for very sensitive skin. :)
